Storefront Improvement Program 2017-2018

About the SIP Pilot Project

The Storefront Improvement Program(SIP) encourages businesses and property owners within eligible neighborhood commercial corridors to improve the front exterior of their commercial properties, making these areas more attractive to shoppers and growing their vitality and economic performance.

The SIP Pilot will provide 100% of the total project cost of eligible improvements for up to $10,000 for a single commercial property and $15,000 for a multiple address or corner property.

Eligible Properties

  • Kensington Avenue, 2400-2900 Blocks
  • North Front Street, 2000-2300 Blocks

Eligible Improvements

Typical projects include, but are not limited to:

  • Masonry/Brick pointing
  • Cornices
  • Exterior painting
  • Windows/glazing
  • Exterior doors
  • Exterior facade lighting
  • See-through security grills
  • Signage and awnings

Ineligible Improvements

SIP funds cannot be used for new construction. Projects which use solid security grates, vinyl awnings, reduce the size of mmasonry openings/eliminate windows, or cover previously uncovered masonry (e.g. brick, stone, limestone, etc.) with paint, stucco, siding, etc. are NOT eligible.

Project Development

A Project Manager will provide guidance on the development of the scope of work, prepare the application, solicit bids from contractors, ensure that required permits are secured, and drive the project from beginning to completion.

No work can begin until Commerce has issued an award letter.
Applications submitted after work has begun will not be considered.
All projects must be complete by June 30, 2018.
